Feel the Beats

10 Mar
As the weather warms in the City of Sin, outdoor music festivals are popping up on the spring calendar. Granted, the sold-out yearly art and music festival, Coachella, is in Indio, but that is only three days. We have Soundclash, Extreme Thing Skate and Music Festival, Neon Reverb Music Festival, and The Love Festival. If you are a music fan as much as I am, check out these events.
Red Bull Soundclash Las Vegas
Making its Las Vegas debut this Saturday, March 12th, Red Bull Soundclash is a live music battle between two different music genres. Rapper, songwriter, and record producer Cee Lo Green will face off against indie pop group The Ting Tings across from Luxor at MGM Grand South lot. Green is best known for his Grammy award-winning song,“F*** You” and as one of the members of Gnarls Barkley. The Ting Tings are a duo with hit songs “That’s Not My Name” and “Shut Up and Let Me Go.” The battle consists of three rounds. Starting off in round one, the two bands recreate a cover song. Next, one band starts playing an original song and the competitor takes over halfway through. The big challenge, The Clash, has the bands playing songs in three different musical styles. Both bands finish up with a surprise allowing each to bring in a special guest.
I am personally excited for this. I don’t know if it’s because I get to see famous musicians being challenged, or the fact that I was obsessed with Green’s Muppet performance at the Grammys.
Neon Reverb Music Festival
Locally organized by not-for-profit independent promoters simply for the love of music. The event is biannual and set downtown. From March 10 to 13, venues like El Cortez, Gypsy Den, The Beauty Bar, Griffin, Brass Lounge, and more will have a packed-filled schedule of 88 different indie, alternative, and punk rock bands. Party goers can buy a three-day pass for $50 or a one-day pass price $12 to $20 depending on the day. El Cortez is offering discount rooms for $45 a night. Extreme Thing Skate and Music Festival
Combine 21 national music acts, a professional wrestling exhibition, Ricardo Laguna’s Pro BMX Dirt Bike Challenge, and plenty of food and drinks, Clark County Parks and Recreation has got one extreme festival. The festival is returning for its 16th year at Desert Breeze Park, Saturday, March 26 from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Bands set to preform are Hollywood Undead, Sum 41, P.O.D., Sage Francis, Senses Fail, Suicide Silence, Attack! Attack!, Asking Alexandria, Black Veil Brides, and more. Seven local bands will be featured on the XPOZ stage that won Battle of the Fans competition.
I was planning on going to this event until I found out it is smoke- and alcohol-free. I do appreciate music, but alternative music isn’t my favorite so I need an incentive to go.
The Love Festival
Not to be confused with LoveEvolution in San Francisco, the longest running dance festival in America is coming to Las Vegas this Memorial weekend, May 27 to 29. It’s the same company, Go Ventures, Inc., that brought Glamorous to the Palms last Labor Day. For the 18th year, it will be at Palms and feature major headliners like Paul Oakenfold, Morgan Page, Treasure Fingers, Yvonne Black and more. The Love Festival promotes positive energy and love while embracing music. House music, Palms, love and hugs? Enough said, I’ll be there.
