Time to Get Lucky!

14 Mar

The luck of Irish takes over Las Vegas Thursday. St. Patrick’s Day gives us reasons to dress as a leprechaun, drink green beer like it’s water, gamble for gold and party all night long. The national holiday is celebrated in honor of St. Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland. Even though St. Patrick was originally associated with the color blue, it transitioned to green back in the 17th century because of the shamrock. St. Patrick used the shamrock to explain the Holy Trinity to the Irish pagans. St. Patrick’s Day is March 17th to honor the day of his death. Whether or not you’re Irish, celebrate the holiday at the city’s best Irish pubs and events.

Mcfadden’s at Rio
When this bar first open, I use to get smashed here at least once a week. I celebrated the holiday here three years ago and ended up … well, let’s just say I got lucky. Mcfadden’s knows how to bring out the best in people. This year, Mcfadden’s is kicking off St. Patty’s Day at 7 a.m. with $20 eggs and kegs and a 21-shotgun salute beer chug. The party goes keeps going with midday mind eraser shots, $4 green beer, live music from Bread and Circus, and a build-your-own green bikini contest.

RíRá Irish Pub
Nothing like having a grand opening of an Irish Pub on St. Patty’s Day. My best friend works for this company in New Hampshire. She told me she has blast bartending there and the crowd is always down for a good time. The pub is in Mandalay Place and will feature an 8-foot-tall, 500-pound statue of St. Patrick dated back to the 1850s. It will start off with a parade at 10 a.m. from Mandaly Beach, marching directly to RíRá. The party will last throughout the day and feature live music from The Chancy Brothers and Boston’s Erin ÓG.

O’Sheas Casino
O’Sheas may be consider a “dive” casino, but if you have ever been, this place is an awesome time without dropping a lot of green. The casino isn’t celebrating for one day, it is taking over the entire weekend with a three-day block party. The party is free of charge and will provide drink and food specials, live entertainment, and a beer pong competition between Holly Madison and Lucky the Leprechaun. My bet’s on Lucky.

Nine Fine Irishmen
New York-New York is going green for a full-day party starting at 11 a.m. with a parade through the casino, bag pipers, green beer and live music. The Celtic Feis will continue throughout the day at Nine Fine Irishmen and the Brooklyn Bridge. Expect specials on Irish food and specialty cocktails — and maybe some little leprechauns passing out gold.

Murphy’s Law Bar & Grill
If you live on the east side, Murphy’s Law is having a block party on East Flamingo for an all-day event. It is offering food and drinks specials, live music, games, giveaways, and green beer. Your first green beer is free with a donation of boxed or canned good to HELP of Southern Nevada. It will feature Irish Leprechaun shots and Irish Car Bomb Brownies along with various other Irish inspired treats. If you don’t live in the area, you may still want to go. Just make sure you take a cab home.

Mulligan’s
St. Patty’s Day will be celebrated in the multiple locations of Mulligan’s with an all-day food special of corn beef and cabbage for $12.95. The celebration will be equipped with green beer, giveaways and special St. Patrick’s Day T-shirts.

There are tons of events going on in Las Vegas for St. Patrick’s Day. If you aren’t interested in heading to an Irish spot, pretty much every nightclub, bar, and Mexican restaurant is having an Irish day celebration. I’ll be sporting my best green and enjoying a Guinness at some pub. Maybe I’ll get lucky this year, too!
