Man’s Best Friend

7 Apr

There is nothing like going home from a long day to be greeted by your best friend. You open the door and there they are, waiting for you to say “Hi.” Once they know you’re just as happy to see them, their tail starst wagging, or maybe they gently rub up against you, purring quietly. Their love and loyalty is unconditional. April is National Pet Month and it is time show your pet how much you care about them. Las Vegas is having events throughout the month that are not only fun for your pet, but fun for you as well.

The 12th Annual Mix 94.1 Pet-a-Palooza
The biggest pet event is back this Saturday, April 9, at the Sam Boyd Stadium from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. For $8, you can enjoy the sounds of Train, American Idol’s David Cook, Andy Grammer, and Fefe Dobson. If you bring a canned pet food item, you will receive $2 off the admission. There will be various vendors from pet stores, boutiques, groomers, trainers, vets and more. Pet contests will be held throughout day including a competition from Las Vegas DockDogs. DockDogs is a performance sport opportunity for your pup, including vertical jump, speed retrieval and iron dog. Portion of the proceeds will go to various animal groups that will be at Pet-a-Palooza and free vaccinations are available. Mutts on Main Street
If you are looking to expand your pet family, The District at Green Valley holds Mutts on Main Street a few times a year. Local animal shelters gather to bring homeless dogs and cats in hopes to find them a permanent home. The event is scheduled for next Saturday, April 16, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The District at Green Valley has various clothing boutiques, restaurants and gift store to check out in the pet-friendly community.

Cats and Sin City Show
Do you think your cat is good enough to place as the best in show? The International Cat Association is bringing the Cats and Sin City Show to Las Vegas, April 16-17 to Alexis Park Resort. Admission for spectators is $5. The competition is broken down into four categories: kittens, cats, alter and household pets. Awards are given in four classes: Best in breed, color, division and finals. If you think your feline is good enough to be the best, you can find out entry details here, http://www.purrsiaoriental.com/SinCity/casc.html.

If you currently do not own, but thinking of getting one, please make sure you are willing to take care of it and give the attention it needs. Las Vegas’ animal shelters are overpopulated and struggling to afford all the necessary health requirements for each animal. A lot of locals leave their pets deserted and Animal Control is forced to pick them up. If you are convinced you can handle a new furry friend, check out Las Vegas’ animal shelters http://www.sceniclasvegas.com/laddie.html, for current availability.
