I Got Five on It

2 May

Happy May friends! Yesterday was known as “May Day.” May Day is a holiday that is celebrated in many different countries for many different reasons. Some countries celebrate it as a “labor” day. Some countries celebrate it as a Celtic holiday. This Thursday, one country celebrates one holiday for one reason. In Mexico, Cincode Mayo is the celebration of the Mexican Army’s victory over the French in the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862. Some may confuse the holiday with Mexico’s Independence Day, however that is not until September 16. Cinco de Mayo has spread its celebration into the United States, and Las Vegas is no exception. There are an unlimited amount of parties for Cinco de Mayo and even a couple of events for those who care not to celebrate.

The most interesting party is being held on Thursday at Hussong’s Las Vegas at Mandalay Place. Hussong’s is searching for the “most interesting man in the world” and whoever can convince the party goers on Cinco de Mayo that they are it, they get $250. Hussong’s is also offering drink specials on Dos Equis draft and margaritas. Guests can enjoy $6 nachos and $16 short rib enchiladas all day long. Other contests to check out are Blush Boutique Nightclub’s “sexy senorita” contest offering over $3,500 in cash and prizes and Tao Nightclub’s “sexy senorita” contest with $2,000 to the sexiest with Chuy Bravo from Chelsea Lately.

Other places throwing a Cinco bash are Diablo’s Cantina, Tacos & Tequila, Rockhouse, and Mcfadden’s. Diablo’s Cantina will be kicking off the party with $5 Dos Equis and Peligroso. Live music will be provided by The Garage Boys along with a mini Cesar Chavez and a sexy drunken piñata contest. Tacos & Tequila is bringing back its 2nd annual Cinco bash, “CHiP and Salsa” with Tamra Barney from Real Housewives of Orange County and Erik Estrada from “CHiPs” and the Half Pint Brawlers. The party kicks off at 11 a.m. with $5 pineapple infused Jose CuervoTradicional, $5 Dos Equis, and $5 Golden Toro shots. Rockhouse is having “Sink-O de Mayo” party with a $5 cover. I’m anti-cover, but it may be worth it because it is featuring a beer pong tournament and every time you sink a ball, you get a free shot. A dunk tank will be on site where guests can take an opportunity to sink the staff. Beer pong tournaments will also be going down at Mcfadden’s in the Rio. College and locals ladies can enjoy free drinks from 10 p.m. to 11 p.m.

If you are looking to continue celebrating even after the Cinco de Mayo, you take a flight to Italy and enjoy the San Gennaro festival that is back this weekend at the Silverton. What better way to follow up a taco than with a cannoli? Just don’t mix tequila with Sambuca or you will feel muy mal
