Call Your Mother

5 May

This Sunday is Mother’s Day. If you are anything like me, you haven’t gotten a gift yet and have to put a reminder in your phone to call. Every year I tell her, “just let me know when you want to come to Vegas and I’ll pay for your ticket.” Usually by the time that comes around I’m broke so she ends up paying for it. Okay… so I’m not the world’s best daughter, but every now and then I’ll take the time and give her something special, and always make up for it on her birthday. If you are still struggling with what to get “mom,” here are some good items that I found always get you brownie points.

Kodak Photo Books
A picture can say a thousand words and a whole book filled with them can say a million. Kodak Gallery offers photo books that you can turn all your family pictures into a nice size coffee table book. The pictures will last forever. With everything being digital nowadays it might be nice to have something in print. This takes a lot of work and since Mother’s Day is only three days away, you might want to do an IOU. I’m always late with these gifts so I just put in the card, “something special is coming your way… wait for it.” Price range: $30-50

The Old Faithful
Flowers are always an easy gift to give for mom. A bouquet of roses or lilies delivered on her day to remind her of how special she is. However, FTD is offering a twist on “the old faithful.” A heart shaped bamboo plant with a pink ribbon sitting in a vase of pink pebbles. Eastern cultures claim that bamboo bring luck, fortune, peace and prosperity to your loved ones. Bamboo is easy to take care of as long as your mom follows the instruction that will be included with the plant. Price: $39.99

The Gift of Relaxation
What woman doesn’t like a spa day? Since your mom worked so hard giving you the life you have, you can repay her with a day at the spa or simple massage. A lot of spas in Las Vegas are having specials for the day of, but if you would like to let her decide the day, check out Sensations Skin & Day Spa. You can buy a special “Mother’s Day” gift certificate online or at the spa. Massages run around $70 or let her choose what she prefers. Price range: Open

Keeping it Close to Her Heart
My last gift suggestion is jewelry. If your mom doesn’t have a “mother’s ring” or something that is significant to you or the rest of her family, why not get her a Motherhood Birthstone Necklace. Red Envelope lets you personalize the pendant necklace with birthstones of her children. The site also offers other gift ideas, but you better order fast or the gift may be few days late. Price: Starting at $25

If you are still stuck on gift ideas, go to Mother’s Day Central. It offers other unique gift ideas and coupons you can print out at home. As cliché as it is, don’t forget sometimes the best gift is a phone call telling her how much you love her.
