Have Your Cake and Eat It Too

9 May

When it comes to food, I am a conscious and healthy eater. I refuse to go on strict diets, but I watch what I eat to eliminate any cravings or unhealthy eating habits. Now to say I don’t indulge sometimes would be a lie, especially this week, National Eat Anything You Want Week. I started a couple of days early because I have family in town. You know how it is… when family is on vacation so are you. I swear I’ve eaten more food these past two days then I eat in a month. I try to eat healthy even when I’m out, but it’s hard when a restaurant brings out extra bread or someone wants to try dessert. I guess I will have to really hit the gym hard this week. Even without the visitors, it is hard to say no to dining out, especially in Vegas. This city has some of the world’s best restaurants and top chefs. The awesome food available at these places usually means rich ingredients loaded with fat and calories. However, nothing is that bad when you eat it in small portions. So grab some peeps and indulge this week on some of these tasty treats!

Drinking Delights

Encore Beach Club’s Peanut Butter Colada
Southern Wine and Spirits special colada mix blended with real peanut butter and Cruzan Coconut Rum. These are so addicting, it will be hard to have only one.

Sugar Factory’s Lollipop Passion Goblet
The steaming colorful drink is filled to the top with Malibu Rum, Midori and juices garnish with dry ice and two large lollipop sticks. All of Sugar Factory’s goblets are amazing, but you will want to share.

Blue Martini’s Key Lime Pie
This creamy cocktail is made with Three Olives Vanilla, KeKe Beach Key Lime Liquor, Midori and a splash of cream. It is rimmed with a graham cracker crust. If the bartender mixes it right, it is amazing.

Roadrunner Saloon’s Baked Skillet Baked Spinach Dip
Served piping hot in a cast iron skillet with Texas cheeses, spinach, and tortilla chips on the side. Hands down the best spinach dip I’ve had.

First Food & Bar’s Philly Cheese Steak Dumplings
Philly Cheese Steak bites covered in flaky pastry deep-fried served with Siracha ketchup. It’s hard to explain how good these taste, so just try them.

Firefly’s Stuffed Dates
Bacon-wrapped, smoked almond, red wine reduction, blue cheese – you may want to order two servings, they will go fast!

FIX’s Very Adult Mac and Cheese
Deep fried batter mac & cheese with truffle oil, prosciutto, and four different cheeses. It is offered as a side, but I still get it as an app because it’s so good to wait until my meal.

Burgers and Sandwiches

Holstein’s Longhorn Burger
A big beef patty topped with Texas Smoked Beef Brisket, Whiskey BBQ Sauce, creamy cole slaw and dill pickle. I recommend getting the steak fries as your choice options and slap on a slice of cheddar cheese.

Capriotti’s The Bobbie
Thanksgiving in a sub with homemade turkey, stuffing, cranberry sauce and mayo. I would get a size big enough to feed you and your friends because it will go fast.

Todd English Pub’s Skirt Steak
Open faced sandwich dressed with olive oil toasted crostini, prime rib chili, cheddar cheese fondue, “Fritos”, TE BBQ, sunflower seeds… enough said.

Stripburger’s Famous Blue Cheese Burger
A thick beef patty topped with a thick layer of blue cheese, mayo, pickle, tomato, lettuce, red onion, and fried onion strings. Get a side of sweet potato fries and you will be in taste bud heaven.

Just Desserts

Sierra Gold’s Zookie
A giant warm cookie (chocolate chip, peanut butter or white chocolate macadamia nut – personal fav) baked and served with vanilla ice cream, whipped cream, chocolate and caramel sauce in cast.

Simon’s Junk Food Platter
Relive your childhood with a sampling of Hostess cupcakes, Snoballs, cookies, chocolate caramel popcorn, mini sundae, milkshake, Rice Krispie and Fruit Loop treats, brownie, and cotton candy.

Killer Snacks’ Deep Fried Oreos, Nutter Butters, and Twinkies
Basically any treat these guys deep-fry are delicious with its award winning batter. You can find Killer Snacks at mostly all the festivals in Las Vegas and game events.

DW Bistro’s Red Velvet Cake
Homemade cake made fresh with its own cream cheese recipe and white chocolate shavings. One piece is big enough to share, but only if you want to.

Honorable Mentions: Frist Food & Bar Doughnuts with Raspberry, Caramel, and Chocolate Sauce and Sugar Factory’s chocolate Fondue selections.

These are my personal favorite guilty pleasures, please feel free to comment and share your favorites. Either way…eat your heart out Las Vegas!
