My first experience with MAGIC was back in 2007 when I was bartending and a customer gave a pair of thongs and a tank top from his clothes line as a tip. I actually have the top still to this day… don’t know where the thongs are though. I was tipped a pair of jeans a couple of years later as well. Unfortunately I’m not behind the bar anymore so it looks like I’ll have to buy the clothes just like everyone else. MAGIC returns to Las Vegas August 22 through August 24. It arrives two weeks before the annual Fashion’s Night Out event encouraging people to shop and support retailers during economic hardships. Coincidence? I don’t think so.

MAGIC is being held at the Las Vegas Convention Center and Mandalay Bay Convention Center. The show is split into six categories with each having a specific fashion concentration. WWDMAGIC focuses on women apparel including swimwear, sportswear, accessories and bridal with over 2,000 different labels. In other words, this would probably be the most dangerous spot for me. Of course, if women have a spot so do the men called MENS/WEAR featuring casual to suits. S.l.a.t.e gears towards streetwearlabels and holds the MaloofSkateboarding’s Best Line Pro-am Challenge. Expect other action filled sports in this area along with some record breaking stunts. STREET is just steps away from s.l.a.t.e. taking streetwear up a notch with an urban feel. FN PLATFORM is the shoe section of the convention introducing over 1,500 new designers and styles from kids to high luxury. I lied… this would be the most dangerous spot for me. PROJECT, POOLTRADESHOW and SOURCING at MAGIC are the remaining categories collaborating to find new styles, items, and fabrics.

As if the convention isn’t exciting enough after-parties with specific brands will pop up in the next week as well. Three parties have already been announced at Gold Boutique Nightclub, Haze Nightclub and Playboy Club on Tuesday, August 23rd.

A couple of weeks after on September 8, Fashion’s Night Out returns to Las Vegas. Six shopping centers and one boutique is involved in the annual event teaming up with fashion designers and charities to encourage Vegas locals to shop until they drop. The Forum Shops at Caesar’s Palace partnered up with the Art Institute of Las Vegas to search for Las Vegas’ Best New Designer. The winner is announced during Fashion’s Night Out. Crystals is donating a percentage of sales to local charities, Opportunity Village, Lied Discovery Children’s Museum and Boys & Girls Club of Las Vegas at participating retail stores. The Shoppes at the Palazzo, the Grand Canal Shoppes at Venetian and the Fashion Show Mall are teaming up to deliver some great fashion treats. Fashion’s Night Out Kiss & Tell Cosmetics Bar at the Shoppes is doing complimentary lipstick reading, Barneys New York will have an exclusive jewelry boutique with complimentary champagne and Fashion Show is delivering runway fashion shows all weekend long featuring Saks Fifth Avenue and Pinto Ranch. Inglot at Town Square is having a celebration for the event at 5 p.m. with cocktails, hors d’oeuvres along with mini red-carpet makeovers. Lastly, one boutique, Patty’s Closet, on South Rainbow is displaying the latest fashion trends on live mannequins with special appearance by local designers with a 20% discount on purchases.

I guess I will have to pull out the old piggy bank and see what spare change I have in there. I mean if it’s for a good cause I have no excuse but to shop!
